Did you know that in 1913 Belfast was the centre of the suffrage movement in Ireland?

Come join us for a journey back in time when women couldn't vote in political elections as we delve into the fascinating history of the Belfast Suffragettes. Learn about the courageous women who came to Belfast to campaign for the right to vote and the ones who went to England and Scotland to do the same.  If you wondered what your great granny was doing in Belfast in the 1910's you might just find out as this walking tour tells the story of the Suffragettes in Belfast, those women  who the newspapers called "well-dressed hooligans"!

On this tour, you’ll hear some of the stories about the  women who lived through it, including:

 The women who took over Government Buildings in protest against how they were treated

 The female politician who played a key role in securing the peace agreement

 The women who risked their lives every day just by working in shops and bars in Belfast City Centre

 And many other  voices that haven't been heard.

"Well Behaved Women (of a certain age) Seldom Make History"

In this tour you'll hear about:
The woman who didn't even start her writing career until she was 46, going on to write eleven novels
The woman who campaigned against slavery until she was at least 89 years of age
The woman who didn't get her first Hollywood film role until the age of 53, continuing her movie career for another twenty four years

So if you are also a 'woman of a certain age' you'll enjoy this tour about women who continued (or even just started) to blaze a trail in the latter half of their life.
